NewEnglandSkier13;c-61646 wroteI mean absolutely no offense by this but I think there are very few people who would consider the modern iteration of Crotched as having a "soul." It may be a fun place to ski, and there may be numerous passionate people who are important parts of the mountain, but it's been a corporate operation since its reopening without much quirkiness or longstanding significant culture/community surrounding it.
Offense taken. You're like a moth to a flame when it comes to Crotched.
Crotched was Peak Resorts first investment in the Northeast. It's also a NELSAP revival, which is exceedingly rare. They built it in 9 months (unlike the resort everyone fawns over that's planning a 30 million dollar lodge) and when they opened on Dec 20th, 2003, coverage was deep and wall-to-wall. Our ski patrol built our top shack and was strapping seat pads onto the quad that Saturday morning.
The original Crotched was an early adopter of Barrel Guns and was one of just a handful of areas where two ski areas were linked into one resort.
The Peaks rebirth brought Midnight Madness to the Northeast.
Soul is about a living experience, not quirky decors and clever trail names.
Sometimes Sam, if you have nothing nice to say, just say nothing.
