I was saddened to hear that Marty Engstrom, Marty on the Mountain, who was an engineer for Channel 8 in Portland, ME for decades. He helped keep the broadcast equipment on the summit of Mt. Washington running, but a lot of you may remember him for his short, live, weather updates he gave from the summit. He had an unmistakable downeast accent and I always enjoyed watching his segments when I could. In 1999, when interning at the Mt. Mount Washington Observatory, I had the chance to head over to the building where the TV engineers lived and worked, and to meet the legend. We brought over some homemade chocolate chip cookies which were well received. Marty excused himself, put on his bowtie, and within a few minutes we got to watch him go live with the weather report.
