Pipeline was the shorter horizontal gas line straight down Granite or Great Gorge North

The vertical ( and Conrad’s pic ) is electric power line

This master plan map is what dreams are made of. Those 2 additional pods on the Great Gorge side would have been big fun. The first time I saw this map it basically recreated what me and my ski buddies dreamed about when we were in high school skiing at GG/VV. It is sad it never happened.

Nice. I was in the area a couple of times the last few years and in addition to seeing the changes at Hidden Valley (old stomping grounds) it was wild to see the changes at VV/GG. I can't say I think they are all for the better (Granite Peak is the shadow of its former/potential self, for instance, IMO), but it is a megaplex, for sure. Would be fun to explore on a weekday.

In ‘88 on a Tuesday prime time Feb or so when I was off from work in the car biz I had a coupon out of the NJ Herald( Newton) paper for like $15 or so at VVGG.

I took fitz’s folly at North and stopped at pipeline which was a “lost” trail, climbed up it and was a shorter steep section and flatter and longer on top.
The Tenney gas pipeline trail later reopened wider w good snowmaking under Intrawest. Now I believe it’s “lost” again. I believe it was the only double black but could be wrong.

I only skied Hidden Valley once when it first opened and found out they got one of Snow Bowl’s chairs.

I had a season pass for a few years back when pipeline was open. It was pretty steep, and there was no runout after the steep section. It just leveled out into a 90 degree turn. I watched many people slide right into the fence at the turn. I can see why its no longer a trail.

The new GM was on the storm skiing podcast a few years back. They explained why the cabriolet exists (there was planned real estate at the top) but also mentioned they plan on replacing the vernon triple with a detatchable lift. They also plan on regrading and bringing back the granite view trail, as well as the route 80 trail on vernon which currently cuts from granite to vernon through the condos to the bottom of the where the triple is now. This would allow for three routes down to the new lift when it is installed.

He also mentioned bringing back the turkey trot lift, which would allow for an upper mountain learning area in the spot between granite and vernon.

The highlighted trails are the ones coming back. The red top to bottom would be the new detatch, and the upper mountain is where the old turkey trot was. The interesting thing about this map that I touched up is that its from 2022. Notice that granite view and pipeline were both drawn in, however in the released version they aren't present. So maybe the plans are are closer to fruition than I think.

Its been a few years since this was mentioned, but I hope it happens as it would transform the place for the better. They also need to get their terrain parks on just one area. As a former park rider, the trails on south are way too long to have any good flow. Park riders do not like hitting a feature than riding a quarter mile to the next one. Maybe they should consolidate all the park features to one trail off of south peak and one off of bear, or all off of bear.

Who knows, but its fun to play ski resort tycoon in your head. (check out winter sports simulator 2 if you really want to do this)
