It absolutely is. It's a ski lift, isn't it? According to you, would that mean that ski areas which only have a magic carpet are never open?

To me they are open, but 10 turns by no means buys a ticket to the opening game.

1. they sold tickets
2. ticketed people rode an operational lift
3. they skied down a snow covered slope

Hamburgers, heat lamps, an overflowing toilet and a malfunctioning water fountain would be a bonus, but these are not a requirement for lift served skiing IMHO.

I'm getting psyched for the season!

Not sure I follow about the Jay Peak comment? They always close and open on the Jet, long after and before the carpets run.

Last year they claimed they were last to close because they pushed their snow into a giant pile to save it, then pushed it out on the summer solstice to open with a carpet.

I love it...in an age of cookie-cutter, money-grabbing megaplex "ski product experience providers", it's nice to see some creativity and gumption.

My point is that neither Ski Ward opening this past weekend or Jay for solstice skiing equates to full chairlift lift-served terrain be it North Ridge, T2, Jordan Bowl or what have you. Completely different ball park.

The ski ward carpet is 240 feet. That’s 6 turns at most. And the pics show the snow is only like 30 feet wide. And fairly equivalent at the Jay solstice bash.

The definition of open has diluted from ±2000 foot long intermediate-to-advanced trail served by a chair to a novice slope gimmick.

And at this point does it even matter? Big Snow, NJ is open year round!

I took an unknown number of runs. A lot. They were anywhere from zero to 14 turns, and every number in between. It was fun just getting back on snow and messing around. The target crowd of course was young ones, hitting the lone rainbow rail and crashing. I just might go back Saturday for another warmup session, depending on what hours they're open. (assuming they do reopen).

I didn't even know they did this despite being a pass holder and following their social media. I did a quick search and their web page indicates they built a micro park and put up some rails.

Did they really use the wording "last to close"? If so, that would be bogus. But they do deserve props for putting in the effort to make a fun event for their guests.

I think they started making snow yesterday or the day before, I can't remember when I saw it on their IG story. When I drove by today the pile was at least twice as big as what is shown below. I wonder if they will open this weekend?

Their goal is to open for the annual Fall fest. I think it's the weekend of 10/18 and 19 this year, so I assume the 18th will be day one if they get enough snow down.

We need the rain, and hopefully it's a lot. Skiing a patch is fun, certainly not necessary, but if it's there, I'm there.😊

Looks like they will be running the carpet Sat and Sun with $8 tickets. I can't find anything on the website but it was on their Parks account story yesterday.
