Saw that Ullur had been good to NVT last week so I decided to head up and get some real skiing in. My partner decided we should ski with friends plus the winds were high on Saturday so we popped over to SVT and skied Magic. It was hard and fast on the groomed trails, and the snow blew into "some" of the woods. There were a couple glades at the top that I would say were fully in but as you went down the mountain they got worse. Got first tracks in a few of em. I rode the black line for the first time which was awesome! It wasn't as fast as I thought it would be but hey it can seat four butts. Hopefully having that and the red line will help them out on powder days. I hit them for a powder day last year and it was so crowded it was about an hour plus per run with only the redline running.
After we went up to Montpelier for the night. On the way we got the lady some new bibs at some nice new fangled ski shop near Killington. We are going to Japan in February to ski so she needed to get something to keep powder out of her britches. We stayed downtown at a place for $62 a night. It had no TV and a shared bathroom with other guests. If I made Ski_it stay there I would probably get disowned. Hit Three Pennys Taproom for dinner; if you haven't been there they keep the Lawson's stout on ntiro and it as the kids say is lit.
I was on the fence for skiing Bolton on Saturday but I didn't want to drive 3hrs in the morning plus it looked like Sat into Sunday they were going to get 4 more inches. They got probably 5-6inches. Bolton was cold AF (~3-5deg) but was awesome! The main Quad and Wilderness were on wind hold until mid morning. They opened up wilderness first which was kind of boney but I got some great turns in some windblown powder. I got chair number 6 when the Quad first opened up and poked around in some of the glades. I got some awesome first tracks there.
On a later run an off duty ski instructor showed us a glade containing a feature called the "tit". It was also my partner's first powder run in the trees so I was pretty stoked about that. The turns in there were incredible. It was like 1ft deep of blown in powder. I then continued to explore more glade runs that the instructor mentioned. I dropped this cool little 5ft ledge/rock into a bowl of powder which was pretty sweet. I got first shot at it though when I came back later in the day some else had found it too.
It was a little boney in some of the glades and at the end of the day I learned that I trashed my board which was tough. I must of hit something that caused my entire edge on me heel side to detach from the body of the board. I got the board from the Jay Peak demo shop 2 seasons ago so I got some use out of it but overall I am disappointed that it failed like that. I am going to try and warranty it but curmudgeons on reddit as well as I don't thing Arbor will give it to me. Certainly not time before Japan at the end of the month. Now I am back to my trusty burton custon X board that Ski_it's been posting me riding on here since 2010.
I also found out from a friend who sells snowboards he had the same issue a couple seasons ago too. Guess I have a new rock board lol.
All in all solid first full ski weekend of the season. Hopefully I can get Ski_it out one of these days.
