We just got back from an amazing vacation in Portugal. Highly recommend visiting this country if you can. It has everything, including amazing vineyards, spectacular coastline, delicious food, friendly people, big cities, history, and more.
And it has several Telefericos, or Cable Cars, or Gondolas. Of course I had to check out two of them. This report is for the Teleferico de Gaia across the river from Porto, Portugal. Porto is the second largest city in the country, and the lift parallels the Duoro River, and soars over the port lodges, where they age the port (like Sandeman's):

You can board at the upper or lower terminal. We boarded from the lower, so we could later cross the Dom Luis I bridge on its higher span.
The lift ride is short, under 4 minutes, and is 1844' long.

There is also a funicular, the Guindais Funicular, that can take you from the Porto side of the river up to the higher points of the city:
