justkeepmovingne I've recently been incredibly fascinated by Denton Hill in PA. It looks like a very sizable operation for the state its located in - a lot of trails, a fair bit of diversity, some steeps and a fair amount of vertical. To boot, it also appears to have some of the best possible conditions for winter in the state. Those of you familiar with my normal comparison know that I usually take a look at base elevation, slope aspect and lattitude and combine them. That math brings it to roughly the same as Windham, Whiteface and Sunapee (obviously treeline, moisture basin and other factors contribute as well to how cold each place gets and doesn't measure how much snow each gets). Point being - I'd certainly like to get out there at some point for the novelty. It feels like a place that probably shouldn't stay closed and for Pennsylvania, is relatively climate change proof for the next couple decades. It sounds like an organization is trying to reboot the ski hill as part of a 4-season operation. Has anyone heard anything new since reports last year? Has anyone skied here before?
z1000307470 This place has always been a curiosity for me, too. The problem is you have to drive to the middle of nowhere and then drive another 20 miles to this place.
rickbolger on US 6. While that road is heavily traveled on Cape Cod, not so much in north central PA. I got within 40 miles of Denton Hill once. Some travel or tourism bureau has a campaign called "Do 6" which is nice, they just need more to actually "do"
FatSkiier New to the forum...Went to DentonGo over Memorial Day to campground at base. Was a wedding in the lodge, some new campsites at the base and some cool cabins, a long with utv rentals. 2 lifts still there, both had chairs and cable removed...a late 60s Hall double and what I believe is a late 80s Riblet. Lots of infrastructure needs still...the compressors and pump house looks beyond service, and the lifts, in particular the Hall, need lots of love. Would be a great hill, but no real population to support it close by (Potter County PA police cars say "Gods Country Police" on them...very remote. Still the worker I talked to was optimistic that by next winter (Dec 2026) they would be operational. There were some towers etc of some old platter lifts there as well. Took some time to explore and take pics. Been abandon since 2014, previous operators purchased Swain, NY and stopped Denton when contract ended (ran both for a while). Cool Lumber museum across the road. Would definitely ski if it were open, but a good 2.5 hours from Rochester, Buffalo, Pittsburgh or any other population bases to support they cost to reopen. I have some pictures to upload once I figure this out.
