joshua_segal Interesting that riverc0il is not satisfied with 400″ of snow at Jay Peak, while I’m thrilled with the 80″ at CM because of its staying power to provide 5-weeks of skiing where the sound of frozen granular was almost forgotten!
The majority of that snow fell before Christmas. It’s not that I am not satisfied with the total. But rather the season was significantly front loaded. March is normally one of, if not the snowiest months of the season. This year, it was the least snowy, and not much behind February, which was also below average. Only 135″ - 192″ at MRG (base to summit), which quite frankly, is really bad. 112″ at Magic is pathetically bad.
The season was phenomenal for folks that want to ski groomers all day in any conditions. For natural snow, it was all or nothing and lacked consistency (the complete opposite of groomer consistency).
Third best for me personally, at best. Maybe fourth best, I’m still holding for ANY good weekend spring skiing (which has been completely absent, so far, only a few good spring skiing mid-week days).
I’ll reiterate that this has been a really good season overall. I feel like I may sound a bit negative. I’m only laying it on heavy because of calls for this season to be rated number one in the past 10 years. That is certainly a valid personal perspective. But expanding the rating to encompass all skiers, all mountains, and the entire region? Second best in the past ten years at absolute best, and I’d advocate for third best, even if it does fall to fourth best in my personal ratings (which it will… if we don’t get any good weekend spring skiing…).
