Killington replacing Snowdon Triple

Killington Resort’s new, independent owners plan to spend $22 million on improvements next year, including construction of a new chairlift. Projects will include the fixed grip quad replacing the Snowdon triple, a lodge expansion, $2 million in snowmaking improvements and $2 million for new snowcats. The news comes at the end of a $38 million summer with Killington replacing the Superstar Express, installing new cabins on the Skyeship Gondola and rebuilding Skyeship’s cabin parking facility this offseason. By this time next year, The Beast’s new owners will have invested $60 million since purchasing Killington and Pico from Powdr in 2024.

The $6.5 million Snowdon Quad will load in a slightly different spot but follow roughly the same line as the outgoing triple, a Heron-Poma dating back to 1973. “The lift will feature fixed-grip chairs as opposed to detachable ones to help it stay operational during tougher weather events,” Killington noted. “This is part of a long-term strategy to maintain our network of fixed-grip lifts, ensuring reliable lift access to all areas of the mountain, even during inclement New England weather.” From the top of Snowdon, guests can access both the North Ridge Quad and Canyon Quad even if the nearby K-1 Gondola and Snowdon Six Express are closed. A manufacturer for the new lift was not announced though Doppelmayr built the new Superstar six pack this summer. Otherwise Killington operates an extensive fleet of Leitner-Poma equipment.

Construction will begin in the spring and the Snowdon Quad is expected to open for the 2026-2027 ski season

If I understand from what the folks on K-zone are saying, the lodge expansion seems to be tied in with the renovation of the Northbrook Skyeship cabin parking station where there will be what used to be a cabin/yurt type, outdoor seating/eating, grab and go food option, now being incorporated with both indoor and outdoor seating options near where the skier/rider entry/exit into the Northbrook station is.

Doubt any Lodge work would be with the K1 or Peak lodges given their relative "new ness", Skyeship Base got some recent renovation/repair work after the floods of last year, doubt they'll do too much other than basic maintenance to the Snowshed and Ramshead lodges given that it seems like the new owners are looking to actually get that master plan redevelopment of that part of the mountain going sooner than later. The wild card would be the Bear Mtn Lodge, which has had some renovation work down to it in the last few year, but with construction having started of the snazzy new townhomes adjacent to the Bear Mtn Lodge as yu head on up towards the base of the Devils' Fiddle trail, maybe that lodge will get some extra $$ love?

The Jamaican Jerk shack building will essentially become the "Northbrook Lodge". Much large footprint with expanded seating, bathrooms, bar service, etc.

The other lodges are all on hold. Snowshed Rams Head will be combined with the Village. Skyeship just was rebuilt back to the studs. Bear is either going to get the same treatment or replaced in the future.

An additional $6 million of funding will be used to construct a reimagined Jerk Jamaican Mountain Grill. Since opening in 2016, this ski-in, ski-out location has become one of the most popular dining areas on the mountain, often reaching its indoor seating capacity quickly. The new building will increase the footprint of the restaurant by over four times what the current square footage is. It will also include additional indoor restrooms for guests in our Northbrook area, as well as 160 indoor seats (an increase from 26), 100 outdoor seats, full bar service, and an improved food preparation and storage area for our staff.

“We’ve been thrilled at the level of investment from our independent ownership group over the past year,” says Killington Resort’s President and CEO Mike Solimano. “They have certainly lived up to their word, even increasing last year’s initial capital investment of $30 million to $38 million by the end of this summer. The flexibility of independent ownership has allowed us to act quickly and make timely adjustments to capital projects while always keeping the guest experience as our priority.”

The remaining $9.5 million in investment capital will go towards continued maintenance and repairs around the resort, with $2 million each set aside for purchasing new snowcats and upgrading certain sections of snowmaking pipelines. The new pipeline will help service the 1,024 new HKD low-energy snow guns that have been installed across the mountain over the past two years, continuing our ongoing focus on snowmaking improvements.
