I went up to Bolton Valley with some friends to check out their back country zone on Saturday. There was barely any snow on the ground at the bottom of the access road and about 1ft in the main Bolton parking lot. As we skinned up into the BC zone there was about 18inches of depth at max in most places. The BC area back behind the wilderness peak is really well labeled. There are some obvious cut glades and lines on the map but we also found a few non labeled cut areas too.
The turns were fantastic and we got some good fresh lines.
This was my earliest day ever and I was pretty pumped to get such good conditions. The only bummer was one of my skins iced up real good and wouldn't stick to my board. So I had to voile strap it on. This meant that I was snow shoeing instead of gliding.
We skinned out of the BC zone to the summit of the wilderness peak for the start of golden hour and skied out via the resort. They were blowing snow on the main peak which was a good sign!
All in all a great start to the season. Hopefully I can get some more good days in after thanks giving.
