Trails that have had their names changed

For the first time in 5 years I am back in the 973 and I’ve got my season pass for creek. I’ve not been on their site for quite some time so this could be a year or two late but there are a number of trails with new names.

So I ask you what are some trails you know that have had their names changed and why did they do it if there was a reason.

I gotta say I hate the names over at creek…match maker, charlies run, WEDELLAND, DRIVET’S DROP, BUNK’S BANK, AL’S ALLEY, and my personal fav Race trail

Sugarbush North/Mt. Ellen/Glen Ellen: After the sale, they changed the name of most of the trails to get away from the Scottish theme.

Hey NJSki, thanks for that!!  I’ve been skiing Mt. Ellen/Sugarbush North since the late 1980s, and had no idea that the names of the runs were changed or had different previous names.  Wow!  I really appreciate your posting.

Another glaring example of this is the bunny hutch area at Whiteface, it went from Olympic names e.g. Gold, Silver, Medalist, Bronze, etc. now Squirrel, Fox, Moose, etc.

I uh, spend some time there early season.

Kappcity  – you’re probably aware they did revert some names when the Mulvihill group bought it back from Intrawest, such as Grand Prix and Garden State.  I think Wedelland is also a reverted name, I think there was a trail with that name in the 1970s and it’s the sort of name Kurlander would have used.  There was no Flying Fox in the 70s

Al’s Alley/Wacky Way was called Aren’ts Delight [sic] way back in the day.  The Bear & Bird names were Intrawest creations.  Bunk’s Bank was part of that or Kamikazee or both, it never had a separate name that I know of.  Race Trail may have had a name back in the day but we all called it Race Trail or Racing Area, depending on who you asked, so that one is kind of true to the original

Okemo changed a bunch of trail names in the early 80’s to move away from the Indian theme. that goes to show you how old I was when interwest took over. 98 i was 7 years old…so i guess i skied the old trails for 3 or 4 years but i hardly remember the various old lifts…let alone the trail names…i revise my statement…i am happy they went back to the prime.

At Hunter, after being widened, re-graded and having snowmaking installed, The Narrows became Minya Konka. The same treatment happened to Lower Hellgate, which became Dropoff.

At Cannon, Profile was re-named Cannonball after the demise of the profile.

I’d say no to Obie. Surprised nobody’s mentioned Saddleback’s infamous changeover (with new owners) from fishing-fly names to cowboy names, and back to fishing-fly names with the present owner. From the Dark Ages: https://skimap.org/data/446/260/1280528594.gif

Much has changed at Killington. Falls Brook is now Bear Trax. Shagback is party roped off and partly has a new name, back on the map this year. 

Loon recently changed the NASTAR trail / Race City to Springboard.

At Killington, The Four Mile Trail was renamed, I think Heavens Gate, but not sure.

The trails at Crotched were mostly renamed when it re-opened in 2003.

Ragged renamed a bunch of the glades between Spear and Ragged Peaks. Also, The Glade was renamed The Reggae Glade.

Slalom Glade at Mt. Snow is now Ripcord.

A not complete list of Killington trail name changes:

Criss Cross & Dipsy Doodle -> Merged into Easy Street.

Goat Path, Rim Run, part of Mouse Run, Skidway, Perimeter, Vale -> All relabeled as Great Northern.

Model C Slope -> Unnamed

West Glade -> Ridge Run

East Glade (Upper) -> Reason

East Glade (Lower) -> (Upper) East Fall.

Off The Top -> Merged into Launchpad.

High Road Left Fork -> Low Road

Upper 4 Way + Skyeway -> ??? Merged into Upper Skyelark I guess.

Lower 4 Way -> Stash Way

Upper Frost Line -> Unnamed entrance to Skyeburst that now ends there.

Lower Frost Line -> Great Eastern -> Bear Trax

Upper Home Stretch -> The Northway

Green Heaven -> Great Eastern -> Bear Trax

Wanderer + Falls Brook -> Bear Cub

Slider -> Grizzly -> Lower Dream Maker

And those are just mid-90s to now changes. If you go back to the 70s and 80s there’s even more.
