newpylong The Cold Brook, which is where West Lake draws it’s water from, definitely has been running at low flow rates, both as a combo of the drought conditions and then the relatively continued cold temps the majority of the last close to 2 months now, The limited, recent rain events, visually atleast, helped increase the flow of water in the Cold Brook, which I would suspect allowed them to work on refilling West Lake a bit quicker.
Visually, it was very much “low tide” in the Carinthia mid Mountain pond this past Monday, after they had just finished a BIG run on Upper Fools Gold (whales probably closing in on 20 feet high off of each HKD gun) as well as a big run in The Farm and Junkyard, and even making snow on Bear Trap off of that feeder line. And there wasn’t active refilling of the Carinthia Pond going on when I went by it late morning on Monday.
Not all of the active snowmaking they’ve been doing this year has always been mentioned on the snow report.
And to add to the what I suspect is a shift in their strategy as to lay it on thick, especially on the non “core” trails to not have to go back later, when they finished the run on the lower part of South Bowl from Link down to Somerset Rd, as they where side hilling the mostly Snow Logic ground guns, they pulled the hoses on most every gun on that section of trail, and the Cat that was pushing it out, sure seemed like it was working with more snow than usual on that section of South Bowl.
So many of the guns I have skied by this season have seemed to be running with if not all the nucleator banks open, the majority of them
