McIntyre Ski Area

I skied at McIntyre today for the first time. In all honesty I probably wouldn’t have done this if it wasn’t on the Indy Pass. I took my 8 year old snowboarding grandson. Our experience was great. The snow was great, the staff was friendly, the lift lines weren’t a problem yet the parking lots were filled. There was a great patio with wood burning fires and an overall great vibe. My grandson really enjoyed McIntyre. I am glad I got to experience McIntyre. My next time will be night skiing there. Thank you Indy Pass!

McIntyre is a great little place! In my opinion, it’s the best of the areas within an hour of Boston, especially if you’re just learning.

newpylong So what? There aren’t any large, or even medium-sized ski area within an hour of Boston. McIntyre is relatively affordable, is easy to access, has great learning terrain, and rarely has lift lines. There isn’t any particularly interesting terrain at any ski area within an hour of Boston.

newpylong McIntyre is well run and they do make the most of what they have. But it’s pretty much the bottom of the barrel as far as what what they’ve got: Nashoba, blue Hills, Bradford, Ward, are about the only comparable areas in the region and all are better in my opinion.

Considering McIntyre (in a different state) is 1:17 from downtown Boston no traffic, it would be fairly ridiculous to skip over Wachusett at 1:35. I don’t love the place, but it’s the Alps compared to McIntyre.

How about Nashoba? Small place but closer to Boston

Dan Yes, Nashoba is within an hour as well. The other ski areas within an hour of Boston are Ward, Bradford, and Blue Hills. Blue Hills has the only terrain that I would consider somewhat interesting, but the overcrowding that often happens there makes it much less attractive.

I have no idea how Nashoba is run now but 35 years ago I did night racing there and that was a well run place. I’d like to check out McIntyre at some point too. Back then Blue Hills wasn’t run well at all but I assume at this point they have new owners. Would like to check out McIntyre at some point, have heard good things.

newpylong According to Google, McIntyre is just under an hour from downtown Boston with no traffic, and Wachusett is a little over.

NewEnglandSkier13 Yep. From Beacon Hill (Boston’s northernmost stretch) to MacIntyre, it is a 50 minute drive with no traffic. From Brighton’s edge (Boston’s westmost neighborhood), it is a 56 minute drive with zero traffic - if you are already on the Pike, which obviously you can’t start from there. Wachusett doesn’t count.

When I lived in Brighton just a couple minutes off the pike, I was not once ever able to make it to Wachusett in less than 1:05.

Obviously not Boston but I live in Somerville and when i did the night pass at wawa a few years back I could do it in 50min. Being at the end of rt2 was an advantage there.

ski_itJR You can definitely do it in less than 60 minutes from the Boston area; just not within the bounds of the city itself. I’m in Somerville as well and have done the same. I guess you can pick and choose what the spirit of the question is

Having lived in ~~Beantown~~, oops…The Hub for a short while, it of course really matters from what part of the city you are in and at what time. This is what I came up with leaving from near South Station at 7 AM. Your actual results will vary.
