Another good day at Loon yesterday, with about 5 inches of moderately wet snow falling on Friday night. It was a busy day, and I heard tickets were sold out – not surprising considering it’s a popular mountain on a powder day Saturday during MA school vacation week. All lifts were running except the Little Sister Double (does it even still run at all?) and all trails and glades open. I stuck mostly to the East Basin and North Peak lifts in the morning before heading to South Peak in the afternoon, which meant I never waited more than 3-4 minutes in line.
Conditions were packed powder/wet packed powder that generally skied well, but quickly formed bumps on steeper areas (Walking Boss and Flume were completely bumped up by noon). As a result, it was quite a tiring day but still fun. One of the highlights of my day was skiing Undercut for the first time since they cleared out the trees. It was a good natural bump run with a few hazards to avoid, and reminded me of when I skied Talisman at Magic Mountain on natural snow a few years ago.
The mountain was in the clouds most of the day with light snow falling making for tough visibility at times, but it cleared up rapidly at around 3:00 so my last few runs were in the sun!
