History of Wisp, MD

I grew up in a suburb south of Pittsburgh. The family went to Deep Creek several times. I climbed Wisp but I don’t recall skiing there.

That video was great Tom. Thanks for sharing. Although I started skiing in the mid-Atlantic in the late 1960s I didn’t get around to skiing Wisp until the 1990s and never met Ace Heise. That first generation of ski area founders in America were really something! It’s a nice little ski area.

Here’s a trip report I wrote 23 years ago on a visit to Wisp when they offered a two-day early season weekend lift ticket for a total of $7, amazing. My two kids that accompanied me on that trip are all grown up. One’s a lawyer and the other is also in the legal/justice field and teaches skiing part-time.

Jim any suggestions on going to Twin Falls on the cheap? Grandson flew out of Hailey which was good on a bombardier rj700 but Ohare was horrible weather. Is Denver better than Chicago for stopover?
Thought of Vegas and 7 hour drive but I guess under $300 rt is not bad from Boise, Hailey/ Sun, or Idaho Falls. Twin is about double priced w 2 stops. From grr

Cisco, congrats on great granddad status! Never been to Twin Falls, but ought to be nice. Pick your poison with O’hare or Denver, although I just did two quick layovers (less than one hour) in Denver two weeks ago flying United and everything went fine. They have a train that takes you to different gates, but some of the gate platforms are huge with very long walks.
