Mountain Creek celebrates 60 years!

The Mountain Creek ski area (Great Gorge) in New Jersey is celebrating its 60th Anniversary. The Great Gorge ski area was opened in 1965 by the Kurlanders, Fitzgeralds, Bakers and the Stasium families.

Peg Kurlander wrote a wonderful book about building Great Gorge and the Hidden Valley ski areas. The name of the book is: The Tow And I. It is available on Amazon.com

I raced at Hidden Valley back in the day. Happy it has been reborn with a great mission, though I wish they’d re-cut the trails to looker’s right of the chair. They were legit.

ciscokid Yep! Overgrown now but wouldn’t take much to rehab. Might sill have snowmaking pipes.
New lodge is huge

Its incredible that the place made it and is thriving given its location.

They need to fix a lot. Hopefully they do something about the vernon lift and the trail flow in that area. its an absolute disaster having everything funnel into one runout to the cab. the layout before the waterpark was so much better. If camelback can have trails cutting through their waterpark so can creek.
