lotsoskiing Not done yet. We’ll see what the verdict is in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed, but the fall was awkward and her knee was not in a great position.
tedede They airlift every injury off the course regardless of severity. She was in a harness, not a Stokes basket so I hope the injury isn’t as bad as people suspect. FWIW, they don’t even bring them into the helicopter. She was surrounded by three flight medics in air.
obienick That’s not true. Many injuries are not airlifted like Mikaela’s puncture or Vlhova’s tib plateau fracture. Vonn ruptured her ACL, bone bruise, and partial meniscous tear (which could have predated the accident).
ski_it He might have meant from that course…er…I forgot again, I’m not supposed to speak for him. Well for me that heli ride would have scare the b’ Jesus out of me. Compound fracture? No thanks I’ll just crawl down the hill. I’m afraid of heights don’t you know. Go Team USA!!
skelley19 Wild that she is still attempting to compete with a ruptured ACL. I wish her the best and hope she can hold it together. What a story is she can pull it off.
lotsoskiing obienick 9th with 2 DQs ahead of her. 3rd today so far but run stopped after 23 starters due to fog. Fingers and toes crossed for the race tomorrow!

Beast Patroller What a bummer, hopefully she didn’t get injured too badly. My wife & I feel so bad for her but even though her Olympics are done she will always be a great skier & champion!
lotsoskiing Compound fracture to lower left leg. Surgery already done. My guess is boot top or the base of her brace provided the break point. Had to have been painful as hell.
Beast Patroller Both my wife & I ski with an ACL brace and never considered the possibility of a fracture between the boot & brace. Good info to know!
lotsoskiing Beast Patroller Similar to how a boot top fracture works. The stiff brace transfers the energy to the bone where the brace ends, just as a stiff boot does the same. Needs to be a pretty violent event in any case.
Beast Patroller That makes sense I just never considered it and never seen it during my 20 yrs on the ski patrol. In fact, it was never mentioned during training, only a boot top fracture so I guess you’re right it would have to be a pretty violate event.
obienick Comminuted not compound fracture for Vonn. Comminuted means it broke into many (3+) pieces. Compound means it came out the skin. Second surgery completed yesterday to minimize compartment syndrome.
