Cat skiing and uphilling at Big Moose

Had a great day at Big Moose. Snagged 2 trips on the snowcat and summitted two more times uphilling for a total of 4 runs from the Summit. A true 1700’ vertical for sure! Anyone who hasn’t experience this place is really missing out, it is an old-fashioned anti-corporate Maine skiing gem!

I was talking to some of the folks from the nonprofit (Friends of the Mountain) that make this place happen and it sounds like some exciting things could be on the horizon for this place. They have done such a great job rehabilitating it from a carcass of a ski area to now a premier learning mountain with big mountain skiing mixed in all backdropped by stunning views!

loafman207 huh that’s weird I just did a bunch on another post. They have to be below a certain size/quality I believe. I convert mine to jpg and reduce them in size/quality until they are under 80kB per pic.

Sam, did you take the snow cat yet to the top of this Penobscot back in the day you were the volume picture poster I love that picture is that the summit absolute summit? How many people and how much is that cat ride? Is it just a Penobscot Trail open or is there a couple different ways down? Is it all natural or has it been groomed?

According to their FB page they had 4000 skier visits during school vacation along with 1,000 cat passengers taken to the summit. Big numbers! I believe their record for skier visits in the nonprofit era is around 12k. Could make 15k with a strong spring!
