Entire Mountain is Rented, but Renter Allows Lift Ticket Sales

Plattekill rents itself out midweek. It’s a very successful program. This Monday, I received a notice from Plattekill that their rental client was allowing the sale of 50 lift ticket for their rental day. Tickets needed to be purchased via Plattkill web site.

The only other time I had heard of this was when I had bought a midweek lift ticket there for a fundraiser and video shoot.

What other areas rent themselves out? Has anyone heard of this happening elsewhere?

BMOM does mountain rentals on days that aren’t normally open. I’m pretty sure there was at least once that the renter opened it to the public, but I can’t remember who or when.

Magic apparently had a rental day last month, that happened to end up being a mid week powder day, the the owner of the company who did the rental (I think I remember reading that it was a relatively local company) decided to allow something like 25-50 mostly locals who weren’t affiliated with the company rental, onto the hill for the last few hours of the rental time. Right place, right time for those folks

Interesting. The tricky question is whether they would welcome passholders. Probably not.

I think after the two day “Miss” last month at Magic, there will be a “6 inch and Over Clause” for all rentals moving forward….

Dirk109 Are you saying to cancel the rental due to a powder day? I feel that would hurt the model of doing the rental. I assume they make good money doing an all day rental. I feel it would be tough call to hurt that side of the business for non guaranteed money on a powder day. I know a lot of people come out on a powder day but midweek you probably aren’t guaranteed the same amount of money as the rental.

I think asking the renter to open up the mountain in the afternoon is a good compromise. If that was what you were going for.

The cause would say something among the line of: Allow up to X in ticket sales or pick another day. The rental fee vs. tickets/F&B on a MAGIC Powder day, even mid- week is a loss…

I can kind of understand these smaller areas not being open full time but since they’re on the Indy pass it makes it hard for skiers who are retired or have days off midweek to go during the week. Saskadena Six is only open Wed - Sun while Magic is only Thurs. - Sun.
