Largest advantage:
With traditional base to summit distribution lines, you have to discharge water at a very high pressure (usually 600-1200 PSI) in order to still maintain working pressure wherever you are making snow. This requires very high HP vertical turbine pumps (anywhere from 200 to 600 HP). If your water is at the top, you can use much smaller pumps and motors to move water around. You let gravity provide much of the pressure.
