abubob While I also don’t think a lift on Mt. Washington would be a good idea, I interpret your question to read why ski areas in general can’t make & hold snow as long as Tucks. Tucks and Mt Washington in general have unique terrain & weather that allows for lots of snow & temps to retain it longer than normal ski areas. Also, though Tuckerman’s Ravine receives a lot of skier travel in the later spring through early summer it doesn’t compare to the skier traffic resorts receive through out the season. With the exception of Killington, Jay (and a few others lately) the cost of making enough snow to last well into May would be cost prohibitive even if they had the elevation & terrain to do it. I do believe though that areas could extend their season by dedicating a handful of trails and stockpiling snow so they can go late April or May 1st! I also don’t buy into the claim that after mid March skiers move on to other activities. Just look at how many flock to the late season mountains until they close!
