Classic Ski Gear From the 60s and 70s Every Senior Skier Remembers
I remember everything except “bubble goggles”.
Runaway straps bring back a memory. It was when someone didn’t use one. I was skiing at Seven Springs, east of Pittsburgh in the early 60s. Ski! Ski! rang out. A runaway ski was heading toward people around the base lodge. A ski instructor was chatting with someone. The ski was sliding fast right at him. He looked up, saw it coming close, lifted one ski and slammed it down, trapping the runaway. He was so cool!
Longthong safety straps weren’t mentioned. I think they were used into the 60s. It’s not a long video, he can’t mention everything.

Me and my Dad wore the bubble goggles! You could even change lens colors although I don’t think I ever bothered as I had multiple pairs. I had Cubco bindings too. They were best for lightweights only as the metal-metal interface tended to release too easily under pressure. I think I even kept a pair of bubble goggles somewhere in a closet up until the ’90s. My wife purges all my old stuff periodically. Only my ’60s baseball cards are sacred.

I’m the Saver and my wife is the Thrower (as well). I had up to 100 ski area brochures until we moved from one house to another. I asked my wife if she had seen them along with some old athletic shoes. Oh she did, and now they’re gone. I did send some “survivors” along with a 1969 ski atlas to Jeremy to help start the original site.
