September 13 1962 a Sikorsky S-58 helicopter crashed and burned on the lift line during construction of the upper mountain double chairlift at Magic Mountain Ski Area in Londonderry, Vermont.
While pouring concrete and hauling materials for the lift footings, pilot Frank Minjoy suffered a mechanical issue and lost control, causing the aircraft to go down.
The pilot Frank Minjoy survived the crash with minor injuries and walked away.
This was the first time a helicopter was used this way to construct a chair lift.

I vaguely remember a small plane or possibly a helicopter that crashed on a ski area in New England in that era and the remains of the crash stayed on the mountain for years. Was it this helicopter?

I was only 2 years old when that happened! I don’t recall helicopters being used back then for lift installation. I do however remember them being used a decade or two later, so how common was it back then?

And another FB replied the remains were in the woods for years.

Looks like a couple Cessnas have run into it in 1973 & 2003. And two F111A w/2 man crews ejected and landed nearby in 1975. See also NESH

Further hijack…embarrassing to say I’ve never visited the museum in Stowe. I don’t recall if in the distance past that they didnt have the best hours or it was by appointment only or more likely I’m misremembering. Now:
