Trail Name Acronyms

The discussion of XC lifts reminded me of an acronym at Waterville XC.What trails (downhill or XC) are acronyms (real or made up by skiers)?

HB Highway, Waterville XC = Hoober Bloob Highway (as in Dr. Seuss)

FIS, multiple, Fédération Internationale de Ski

LBOSTBO, Black Mountain NH, Les B Otten Sks The Big O

PDF, Mt Snow = Pretty Damn Fast (or Fu***d, have heard both)

YOOYM, Whaleback = You’re Out Of You’re Mind

I knew PDF at Mt. Snow of the “G” Rated, Pretty Darn Fast

At CM we have NCC-1701, the registration # for the Starship Enterprise, (NCC=Naval Construction Contract)

I’ll bet there are a lot more of these!

The trail at Black is actually called Lostbo. I don’t know what it stands for.

There are a few college degree acronym names trails at Dartmouth such as MD and MBA.

A dog that was lost.  Had a rather frank discussion with management there a few years ago.  They’ve heard a bunch of different abbreviation stories over the years, not just the one concerning LBO.

GAWM is a puzzler, we had somebody on SJ 1.0 explain that it was a New England expression for a mistake, and that Wilfred ran a bulldozer down the wrong route.  But, the etymology I found for “gawm” is that it means “to understand”, early New Englanders said things like “I dunna gawm ye”

The REAL answer for PDF at Mount Snow is Peg (Walt Schoeneckt’s wife), Dot and Fred (2 of Walt’s closest friends)

There are about a dozen or so versions that I have heard over the years from “G” rated to “R” rated

K.A. at Pico is for “Karl Acker”. Ski racer, ski instructor, and later manager of Pico.

I jokingly tell people FIS at Killington is Friggin increadably short. Since tge trail is two turns long.
