What are New England's most "Posh Resorts" and most "Unpretentious ones"?

I’ve not been to either but I suspect Sugarbush and Okemo have posh-like tendencies!

Posh:

Stratton and Stowe are clear and away the top 2 imo.  

But also:

Bretton Woods has become a very expensive and somewhat exclusive mountain over the last decade and a half since they started opening the Mt. Washington Hotel year round

Okemo not quite as fancy as Stratton, but close.  And in many ways more expensive than Stratton.

Sugarbush has become too expensive since Claybrook was built.  I love the mountain but it is just too expensive for me now.

Unpretentious:

Pico, especially with Killington next door has such a different and relaxed vibe.

This isn’t going as I had hoped.  Let me try again:Make your list of up to 5 areas you consider “most pretentious” in order in order from most to least; and up to 5 areas you consider “least pretentious” in order from least to most.To qualify, the area must have at least 1000′ vertical (New England only).  This will allow for a reasonable summary!

Stowe– can’t get much more pretense than here. 

Jay– used to be a quiet mountain but the water park and other "raised jay’ crap really gives them an attitude.

Mt Snow- lots of Newyorkers who change the vibe over and over. 

Mad River Glen– I love the area but sometimes the attitude of “ski it if you can” snobbery can be wearing. 

Least

Midd Snowbowl– great food and good terrain

Bolton– never knows if it’s going to be around next year makes it humble

Smugg’s– hard to be pretentious when there are no HSQ’s

Cannon– never heard anything but bare bones from there.

Ignoring the 1k vertical feet qualifier I nominate Whaleback for unpretentious.  I’ve never been to Black Mt. but from everything I heard, it should be a candidate too.  I’ll be the first to mention Berkshire East on the unpretentious list.

Loon needs to be on the pretentious list and I agree with Stratton at #1

For unpretentious I’d nominate Hickory Hill in NY although technically it’s not in New England. It does have more than 1,000ft. vertical.

I don’t think posh has to = pretentious.  There are places that are not posh that have a pretentious attitude as well. That being said as far as posh vs. unpretentious list goes:

1) Stowe

3) Bretton Woods

4) Okemo

5) Loon although I think they are a distant fifth but want to be a one or two : - )

Moving from one list to the other…  Haystack morphing to The Hermitage.  It just about qualifies as a gated community and where else would there be a Heated 6 seat bubble on a hill that doesn’t even open on many weekdays during the cold part of the season?.
