Wachusett 2024-2025 Season

Skied Wachusett from 7 PM to closing last night. It was quite crowded to begin with, though the lift lines gradually shortened from around 3 minutes to ski-on by closing. All the night skiing trails were open and Roper’s Road was the only trail not open during the day. Conditions were typical Wachusett loose granular with patches of boilerplate, although there were some good packed powder areas on the sides of some trails thanks to a couple inches of recent natural snowfall. Once the race on it ended, Challenger was the best run off the Minuteman Express, while Smith Walton was the best off of the Polar Express with Conifer a close second. Temperatures were in the upper teens to low 20s and it was moderately windy toward the top of the mountain but no precipitation.

A cold night of skiing last night with a less-than-ideal snow surface, but I was able to get a good amount of runs in thanks to short lift lines. Temperatures were in the low to mid teens, the skies were clear, and there was little to no wind. The snow was a thin layer of loose granular over boilerplate, making for fast and firm conditions. The main lifts had a bit of a line when I started around 7:00 but apart from that I never had to wait more than a few chairs. There was racing/training on both Challenger and Piece of Cake but I was able to ski both of these trails once those programs ended. Crews were turning on a few snow guns around closing time in the base area and around the top of the Minuteman Express.

I also skied Feb. 5 ... with my 5 year old niece (who looks like she is 4 and the lifties loved her riding the lifts with such great success). I found the snow very abrasive. My fresh wax was stripped from my inner edges after only 4 Monadnocks and ±6 Easy Riders.

But overall a solid surface considering the rain and warmth of late.

For Cisco 2/21/2025 - Mrs Ski_it and my granddaughter invited me to go skiing with them at WaWa. So I took a day off. The wee one has taken weekly lessons at Yawgoo for 2 seasons but I was unsure of her level. 2 carpets later and grandma was taking her up the Monadnock while I bailed and hit the Polar, etc.. Conditions were good despite the rain they received after the snow last week. A good 1"+ crust off piste. 100% open, machined groomed flat and not too crowded on the slopes except for the Mo. chair after lunch. On which I took her alone for a few runs. Fun day!
