Snowmaking is live! Planned opening in mid-December
NewEnglandSkier13
Improvements for this season include new snowmaking hydrants, rebuilt carriers for the T-bar (It will run this year!), a dedicated path for uphill travel, expanded in-bounds glades, new sidecountry glades in the East Bowl, and new backcountry glades on the backside (developed in partnership with the Granite Backcountry Alliance).

I first skied this place in February of 2005, when the triple chair was installed. Nice place for some inexpensive skiing.

It has change a lot since then and has tripled in skiable acerage, but it's still true that it's a great place for inexpensive skiing.

Snowmaking is still cranking away. It has mostly moved to the upper mountain now. Opening day is December 21.

Opening day was a success! We have 6 open trails served by both chairlifts, all with great cover.

Quite a unique sight this morning, it is raining lightly, but the snowmaking guns are running across the mountain. Kennebec opened yesterday and Upper Rapid should open soon.

That is always interesting to see. Whaleback ran last night too and it was raining slightly with about a 27 wet bulb. They gotta take any window at this point with such a rough start.

12/27/2019 Update 2
There was moderate icing this morning, but the triple opened on time. The double opened about an hour late. The trails are actually skiing quite well despite the drizzle this morning.
Trails that are now open are all of Androscoggin, Upper Sunday, Ellis, Aroostook, and Kennebec. Snowmaking has moved to Upper Rapid and Swift. Enough snow from Swift has blown into the woods that the first half of Scrog Glade is skiable.

It is another busy day at the mountain. Things are getting a little scraped off heading into the afternoon, but we are looking forward to the storm moving in tomorrow.

The snow started around noon and accumulated quickly. Tomorrow and Wednesday should be pretty amazing with lots of trails opening.

We have a foot of snow and it's still snowing! Ropes have dropped on Upper Rapid, Magalloway, Kenduskeag, and Swift. Glades are also coming into play!

Another excellent day of skiing after the storm! Powder and packed powder conditions with every trail open except St. John, Allagash, & Lazy River. You know conditions are good when its the afternoon and you still don't hear the scraping sound when people turn. The mountain is looking great and the snowmakers will start to add to base depths again soon.

Thanks for continued updates on Black Mtn of ME NewEnglandSkier13! This is such a great and inexpensive option for the area that we need more of. I have had many great days here, while paying a fraction of the price for Sunday River. Also add that Mt Abrams is a fine option, but they seem to be a little behind this year. Please support these local mountains before they are gone! The glades at Black are amazing!!

Thanks for supporting us independent mountains! I also love Mt. Abram and I think they run a very similar operation to what we do at Black.
