I grew up skiing there...great memories. The Bowl was not open a lot, but was fun. Alley Cat was my favorite trail, and the floating bullwheels were classics.

The area I am thinking of:
1. Was first place in US to have a windmill to generate electricity
2. It had a double chair with all chairs gone (but I don't know if it was a center-pole).
3. It grew to include a neighboring area that is open and many hope that the original area will re-open.

Crotched East did not have center-pole chairs. Since wind turbines have been generating electricity since the late 1800s, I highly doubt that Crotched East had the first in the US.

1. different types (plural) 1978 converted from oil to wood burning energy, today the shuttered mountain has wind turbines on top, and the current owner is involved in wood pellet energy.

Balloons, literally & figuratively: Balsams resort owner that prompted first in nation voting and development of the ski area was Neil Tillotson, who made his money manufacturing latex balloons (Tillotson Rubber Co. & the Tilly Toy). Today, for want of a balloon, there has been plenty of hot air regarding future plans.

1. This NELSAP ski area is now owned by the state.
2. Part of a lift from this ski area still operates, but is slated to be replaced.
3. The former ski area is still skied by backcountry skiers, and there is a proposal to make the former ski area into an official backcountry skiing zone.

Well, if you want to get technical, you said "windmill," which is the improper terminology. Windmills do things like pump water or grind grain. Wind turbines generate electricity.

Can you please explain clue 2? what part of the lift still operates, genuinely curious.

Can you please explain clue 2? what part of the lift still operates, genuinely curious.

Lift 1 at Titcomb is partially reused from the former Poma and other parts of it were relocated from Bald Mountain's T-bar.
