My 100% PERSONAL hunch is that baring a week plus of really warm temps, wet weather and warm nights, as long as the crowds keep showing up, that there's enough snow on the hill to get them through until Easter Sunday without having to do very much snow farming.

The core trails, have as much, if not more base on them now, than I can recall in a long time. And given the crowd volumes that keep showing up week in and week out to use their Peak passes, I think that it's all about now "nice" Mother Nature wants to be the next few weeks more than likely crowd volume that will determine any changes in the operations schedule and the eventual closing date in the coming weeks

Mt Snow March 27, 2019

I had a nice day at Snow today.. Skied from about 11 til close at 4. Surfaces were firmish early on the ungroomed, but softened up eventually. I skied mainly on the front side, and all of the natural trails there. Bluebird lines were longer than expected for a Wednesday, but still never more than maybe 4 or 5 minutes. The lift stopping multiple times nearly every run did not help. N. Face was OK on the groomed, but never really softened much. At least a couple trails listed as open were roped, One More Time and Fools Gold. Both skied nice with full cover. I'll see how some pics post??

99% sure that's Little Dipper below where Moonwalk joins in, but before the trails turns to skiers right and heads down to meet up with Big Dipper.

That section always takes a beating from the prevailing NW winds, and then add in the generally Southerly exposure and it's one of the 1st natural snow trails, inspite of it's elevation, to melt out in the Spring

Dr Jeff is correct. I skied Little Dipper to Big Dipper that run. Pretty ugly the whole way.

Oh of course, and ya would think I would know by now huh? I guess I don't ever stop there and look up hill. And I was mistaken I didn't ski the Dippers Monday, but I did them all Sunday and they weren't looking that bad.

That section of Mt Snow with the southern exposure: there were once just two trails there, as I recall. Wasn’t one renamed Thanks Walt and another rerouted?

Tells you how well I know Mt. Snow.😂 I last skied there in 92.

How well would Mt. Snow’s blue squares compare to, say, Attitash (those were far more like black diamonds) or Gunstock or Crotched?

Yes - Coldbrook and Moonwalk before the Quad went in back there. We’re talking 80s though. Unsure which became what for what there is today.

The fact that the Dippers are some of my wife's favorite trails to ski on the mountain has had me making a ton of laps through them over the years, and especially on a clear day, I do really enjoy the views they offer looking down the valley, so arguably more so than other other trails on the mountain, I do often slow down a bit more and just take in mother natures beauty back there! Hence why after a little looking at the pic, I knew where it was, although if the snow was blown in on the other side of the trail and there were some lift towers in the trail, it could pass for the top 1/2 of Shootout

Heck, there's only 86 or so trails covering 600 acres and 40ish miles of terrain to commit to photographic memory! ;)

Wow. In the last 4 days I have skied Killington, Okemo, Stratton and Bromley. Not a bear spot to be found. Not one. Even on Bromley's south facing non snowmaking trails.

That trail, Little Dipper, in that section, basically runs parallel to the prevailing storm winds from the Northeast, so whatever falls often gets blown right down the length of that section of trail and into the woods, so it doesn't hold snow very well, even before you factor in it's generally Southerly exposure. Because of this, it's often one of the last trails on the mountain to open and first to close, and with the exception of the couple of feet immediately along skiers right, the snow is often sketchy even when the rest of the mountain is wall to wall coverage

Ya, I was not trying to portray conditions being bad at all, they were not and I love thin cover runs personally. Most every run was wall to wall with South Bowl another exception. For me, Spring skiing is all about maneuvering down ever narrowing lines due to the diminishing snow pack and warmth, and soft bumps. It makes a mellow intermediate run ski much tougher and more fun for me, but your results may vary? The Dippers run was worth a repeat, just because it may not be around next trip. Skiing the 2 feet on the right provided depth, but hard pack snow. The left side provided nice soft snow but with minimal coverage. Take your pick, or mix it up. All good.

A friend talked me into going tomorrow for my first weekend day of the season at Snow. Is it late enough in the season, and a bad enough forecast for me to not hate it, being a midweek skier? Who will be around?

Not a huge volume of folks up here tonight in my condo complex. Light ride up tonight. Head of Food and Beverage tonight told me they’re expecting 1200 via pre bookings for the Brewfest tomorrow, which isn’t by any means a massive number….

If you see a tall (probably close to 6′6″ guy to the top of my black helmet while in my bindings guy in a green shell and tan pants tomorrow, chances are it’s me!)

Tomorrow is about a few hours of soft bumps and a few hours of good brews and the GREAT sounds of the Jeff Tuohy band on Cuzzin’s Deck!! And if you follow sports media talk shows, and see a guy who looks like Paul Pabst from the Dan Patrick Show on ESPN, I can fully attest after being at the Beer Pairing Dinner tonight with him, that he’s up at his house here this weekend!
