At some point I’ll be out tomorrow, even for a 1 and done, if the weather is ugly!

My son today did the 8:45 until 11 shift, my wife and I did the 11:30 to 1:30 shift. UGLY visibility!! If it got groomed last night it skied decent. After that friends and the sounds of the Jeff Tuohy Band, gathered our intention until about 5:30 after which the parties shifted to a friend’s condo…

Always such bittersweet moments as the season nears it’s end and ski friends start to hit their last weekend’s until next November…..

Thanks ski_it. I’d love a sticker, but I’m not there today. Yesterday sure was foggy but we skied from just after open to just before close anyway. Thought the snow was nice and soft everywhere. Found some visibility in the trees.

Did the 8:15 to first rain drops just before 10 this morning session.

Was nice to be able to see more than 20 feet in front of you this morning unlike the fog fest on Saturday morning.

Nice hero corn and mashed potatoes where the groomers hit last night. A bit sticky where the groomers didn’t venture last night.

Made 1 last lap through Sunbrook, as I suspect it won’t be available next weekend.

Still tons of snow on many trails

March 31, 2019 Sun. Something like 75 trails and 6 lifts. Soft spring variable conditions. It rained until about noon then snowed a little then rained a little more. It stopped around 1. Got real wet. There little rivers running down some trails disappearing then gushing out farther down. Crevices opening up, large wet snow patches. You really needed to look where you were going. That being said the skiing was really good. Skied the woods off Carintha and others. Ledge, lower Lodge & Uncle were fun. The place was deserted. Most runs I was skiing right up to the Bluebird chair and loading. One time I came down and there was not one other person outside at the base besides the lifties. At 2:30 I took Cascade to Canyon and did not see another skier the entire run. I’d post a pic but can’t.

Nice pics, sat by those guys at lunch. Was also wondering about the trees. Bigger pipe maybe? Current one is too small for the big comps.

Are those guys pros because they were really good, better than a pic shows. There was another twin tipper over there that was doing amazing jumps.. in my eyes. Full back layout then a cork 540 then another amazing jump like it was like walking down the street. No I don’t know know what I’m talking about but I can recognize talent. One theory floated apres ski is for a longer half pipe shifted over due to bat habitat in the abandoned mines above current pipe. So take that for what it is worth

Noticed multiple sections of pre welded Snowmaking pipe staged along the bottom of Olympic today…. Wonder if Olympic will get some Snowmaking this Summer or if it’s just for replacement of old pipe???

Also it was very nice for the Food and Beverage crew to leave some of the extra Heady Topper and Focal Banger they had at the base of Ripcord during the Gladiator today!! :#

Back channel rumor I heard while out this evening, is that portions of the existing pipes on Free fall and Fallen Timbers/Chute is where the pipe I saw today is headed….

April 6, 2019 - Sat. 59 of 86 trails, 5 lifts, foggy up high until noon. 2" new 4 in 7 days. The new was ok real early but soon became real soft. If you went into some ungroomed it was like hitting the brakes hard. A lot of slip & stick spots where there wasn't much skier traffic. I did a run down Narrow Gauge totally in the ungroomed and it was incredibly slow & kinda painful but at least it was a consistent drag force of the skis. Things improved somewhat later in the day. They cut all the trees down between the halfpipe and Inferno but still allowed you to ski around the fallen trees from the cutover from Nitro. Inferno was closed, I don't know if was related to the tree cutting as there is a ton of snow on it. Despite having a mogul competition earlier, the bumps on Ripcord weren't well formed. Much better on Free Fall & Jaws.

Sunday April 7th…. Unless Mount Snow reopens Easter weekend, my 30th and last Mount Snow day of my season. And if it was my last day of the season on my home hill, what a perfect way to end it!

Spring skiing perfection! Warm temps (was 54 when my wife, my son and I got in my car to leave about 1:15, and 58 when we left our condo about 3), corn harvesting all over the place, light lines and the snow never really got sticky on the trails my wife and I skied.

A last run with my wife down Snowdance, which is one of her favorites where when we got to the top of Snowdance Pitch we saw that we had the entire trail to ourselves, made it seem like a very fitting end of the season for sure for my wife and possibly me as well.

Plopped the VISA card down today for the families next season Peak Explorer passes, and can’t wait to do it all over again with the family and all of our Mount Snow friends!

Interesting I thought Plummet, Freefall and Chute were fully done in the same off season three years ago. Guess not all of Freefall.

Interesting I thought those both were done in the same off season two years ago.

I had thought the same thing, as the pipe at the base of Freefall is the new, seafoam green colored coated pipe. Upon actually paying attention to what pipe is where while riding up the Challenger lift today, the new pipe that was installed 2 years ago on Freefall was only down on the flat section at the bottom of it, and the remaining pipe is the older, non coated pipe.

And mtn ops confirmed that the pipe currently staged at the bottom of Olympic will be replacing the old water pipe on Freefall

There you have it. Good sleuth work. FYI the green stuff is a fusion bonded epoxy jacket. Kinda a pain to grind off to weld but the pipe lasts longer. Most of the surplus line pipe ski areas buy these days come with it.

Okay so sleuth out why they cut the trees down. I asked the liftie who ran the Nitro all season and I got the std Mtn Ops answer, "IDK". Must be a permit for it?

Nice report Dr. Jeff. I'm going to try next weekend but with the amount of rain forecasted for today IDK. Yesterday was really nice. Like most areas, they could have opened a lot more terrain. Everything on Northface was open & pretty nice except Olympic & Boulder Pile but peeps were poaching them. Ledge was still open & the top flat but the middle section was bumped nice. Uncles was closed but I did the woods off Ridge and skied the lower 2/3's and one point wasn't any narrower than Ledge, the rest was fine.

It does look like from this vantage point you could put a longer halfpipe right where the trees are fallen without moving any snow making.
