Mt Snow Trip Reports 2018-9

Mt. Snow is a photogenic mountain. There are great views in nearly all directions. Yesterday we could even see Mt. Wachusett, as well as Mt. Greylock and Monadnock. The Somerset Reservoir is also a spectacular backdrop for the North trails.

I skied Snow today -Sat. The reservoir is now frozen over so the look changes a bit. It stayed fairly cold (good for crowd control). Bluebird was at most 5 min wait - all other lifts ski on. Snow surfaces held up all day. Snow making resumed on Ego Alley. Northface trails primo - no one on them. Even still, all upper parking was full. I see more day tickets here then I expect. Avoided Corinthia today - last Sat it was a zoo over there and not worth it. The lift coral last weekend was tough - they need to rework the Nitro coral. They reverted to the north/south coral at bluebird after experimenting with a north only coral - it didn’t work. Some chairs off of Sundance triple and scissor lift in the loading area of Sundance - work in progress.

I’m here too Yardsale. They were blowing snow on Fallen Timbers (edit: not Olympic) top to bottom and 95 % of Ego and few other rando locations like in front of Sundance Lodge. Why?

Sundance lodge opens next weekend I think. Paging Dr. Jeff. I think the condos (seasons) want ski out by the middle of Dec and it coinsides with the seasonal workers arriving so they can do it. Ego for the racing programs. I love Ego 1st thing in the morning before they close it for race training. Best run on the main face.

They could ski out now IMHO if a lift was running over there. And shhh about that E trail

Lots of snowmaking happening today. Fallen Timbers, Ego, Bear Trap, Milky Way, Roller Coaster etc etc. Conditions mirrored yesterday but without sun most of the day. Frozen fog at the summit with a bit more of a breeze. Lifts felt more crowded due to no Grand Summit Exp. Blue Bird wasn’t worth the wait today. Looped Canyon Exp and Challenger lifts via river run. Stayed on Northface longer as it remains excellent there.

PS - its still a struggle to link images. I never had a problem before so not sure what has changed

I just bought my lift ticket for Founder's Day next Friday. Currently a $12 ticket.

Dec. 8, 2018 - Sat. Couple shots from late Saturday on Uncle. I’ve become like JS…I was picking up large dead branches off the trail. Despite how it looks on cam it was actually pretty good and bumped up. Although it was too much for one boarder who was walking down and they weren’t even close to the hard part. I understand the why but I hate when people do that and boot track the trail.

ON another note, I left early Sunday and when I passed Living Memorial they were blowing snow! <img

I wish but no. Good news for Founders day - Caranthia open, 13 lifts. Sunbrook/Bear Trap opens. Have fun. Hopefully dry all day.

Mt Snow was on my short list for tomorrow, but being reminded it’s Founder’s day, it’s now off. I may end up at Bretton woods to use an expiring voucher, or AttiCat, or maybe a combo of all 3, just for fun! 9-10:30 at Wildcat, 11:30-1 at Attitash, and a few runs in the Bretton glades to end the day sounds good, on paper anyway…

I didn't answer my alarm early this morning, so it's on to plan C. Crotched only today. I'll be interested to hear how crowded Mt Snow is for Founders day.

Insane crowds here at Mount Snow. 35 minute wait to get through Wilmington. Took the shortcut.

Mountain socked in the clouds right above base level with freezing fog. Debating on selling my ticket and going home. Dosent look safe for me.

In other words, typical Founder’s Day (and the same things goes for $17 St Patrick’s Day tickets) crowds and chaos. About the only real variable year to year is #1 how many lifts and trails will be open and #2 what will the weather be on that given day.

I will enjoy seeing the sea of Southbound headlights coming towards me late this afternoon as I’m in bound, in light Northbound traffic, to my place up there for the weekend! ;)

Jiminy or Wachusett, which aren’t in the immediate vicinity of the I-91 corridor, are about it for current places South of Mount Snow with full day operations mid week right now…

I know that many of my Mount Snow friends, who live up there, and have jobs that facilitate them skiing pretty much every day, often head up to Stratton, Okemo, or Killington on Founder’s Day to get away from the chaos that it brings, not just at the mountain, but also along the stores on 100 in the vicinity!

The fog at higher elevation areas make it a poor day for skiing. I ski slowly and don't want to get hit.
