A unit in Greenspring. 3 families were staying in it, apparently they had won the use of the condo for the weekend when the owner put it up as an item for bid at a charity auction!! It was then the classical old situation where they put embers from the fireplace that they thought were completely out, in a bag out on the front porch before they went to bed. Fortunately everyone in the 3 families staying in the unit got out safely, and the firewalls between the units did their thing.
I have 2 friends who own in that immediate area of Greenspring. They had some intense stories to tell about the experience when I saw them on Saturday!! 1 friends unit, that is 2 doors down the unit that caught fire, had no damage other than some smoke smell, and another friend, who’s unit is basically across the street from the one that burned, was awoken a bit after 11PM by the smell of smoke in their bedroom!!
Crazy stuff, and a big thanks to the Dover FD, as well as other area fire departments who certainly had some challenging conditions to work in!!</blockquote>
It is incredible how often that happens with embers/ashes being put in the wrong place.
In metal can, with a lid, out in the yard/driveway, away from house. Anything else is looking for trouble. A friend of mine nearly lost his house when he left his on the deck, in a can with no cover. Wind picked up, embers caught the cedar siding, before he knew it the wall was burning. Luckily got to it fast with snow but could have been tragic.
