Nice day of skiing yesterday. 50 trails open and plenty of variety across the Mountain. Scored a decent deal on Liftopia. Had no idea if it was going to be swamped or empty. The mountain was not as busy as I expected.
I arrived just before 8, got ready at the Sundance Lodge (it’s always closed midweek so was nice to finally go inside it). Parked just 1 row away which made it even more convenient.
Trails were a firm groom in the morning. I made a few laps on the front side on the Bluebird before the crowds came for that lift. Then went over to the North Face before 9. Nobody over there at all. More firm groomed snow. Trails were all in great shape, including my new favorite over there, Plummet.
Migrated over to Sunbrook next, then a few laps on Beartrap Double. Beartrap was groomed the day before and was slick but not awful. Sunbrook trails were fast and fun.
Then to Carinthia for a ride on Heavy Metal - always wanted to ride it, and since there are rumors of it being upgraded, glad I did. It closed though at 2 when I made my way back over there so only rode it once.
Had lunch at the Bullwheel on the summit. Pricey - grilled chicken sandwich + 1 beer was $23, then tip and tax extra. But it was Hill Farmstead so that made up for it.
Afternoon made laps on the Canyon Express, then over to Carinthia, where the HSQ kept stopping, apparently people have trouble loading it/not paying attention. Some chairs were only going up 3 people despite a healthy singles line. With the new lodge there (which is fantastic btw), I bet they’ll be making the upgrades to the HSQ (HS6 coming?) and Heavy Metal before long.
Skied on Tin Lizzy the first time which connects Carinthia to bottom of Sundance, pretty flat, and it goes underneath the Seasons Double, the most forlorn Hall Double around. From what I hear it does not run very often. It would actually make an excellent beginner slope as it has more vertical (150′) than the beginner trip (75′). It’s tucked away too.
Final total was 28 runs, 28k vert, 29 miles, so a packed day and well worth it.
