We tried this a few years ago and it lasted about a week. Here is the way the thread works:
1. Person "A" posts a trivia question.
2. If no one gets the answer within 24-hours, anyone gets to post the next question.
3. If someone gets it, that person gets to post the next question.
4. If that person doesn't post a new question within 24-hours, anyone gets to post the next question.

First question: The earliest an eastern ski area has ever opened is Oct. 1 (1992, 3, 7) and two areas did so in the same year. No rocket science to know that one was Killington. Who was the other?

PS: Today is August 8. We are now closer to the beginning of the 2019-20 season than the end of the 2018-19 season!

Not as far as I know. It's not one you'd guess. The hint: Other than this one attempt, I don't think they ever tried to be first-to-open again.

Good try. While they were first to open a few seasons, they never made Oct. 1.

You may be thinking of somewhere else but jgreco is correct -- according to SKI Magazine October 1994 issue page 18E, referring to "last season" that "Killington & Sunday River battled for bragging rights" as "Both ski areas opened lifts Oct 1 for limited skiing and fired off a salvo of press releases"

I know in 1987, Stratton beat Killington in opening first after a freak 18" snowstorm.

OK. Given rickbolger's comment, jgreco gets to ask the next question. I was aware only of Cannon Mountain's one shot at first-to-open, but I don't recall if that was 1992 or 3.

Oh no! I was hoping we could still guess at the other OTHER one. That's neat that Cannon made a go of it. Was it all snowmaking supported or did they get some natural to help out?

Question: What was the only northeastern (NJ, PA, NY + New England) ski area to operate during the 2011 season with at least three surface lifts and no aerial lifts?
(I'm not 100% sure of this, but pretty confident.)

The Summer and Fall of 1992 had some record cold temperatures. I know some folks hiked up to Killington Peak to get September turns in as snowmaking started on the 30th.

I do have one more comment on the early skiing.... How weird is it to be skiing and still have leaves on the trees? got that experience last fall at Mt. Snow. It sorta freaked me out

I've skied Killington with Fall foliage still on the trees and green trees with leaf out in Spring.

Not sure about that, but I was lucky enough to ski there in March of 1999 with summit skiing.

Oh those K Peak chair photos bring back memories. There would still be mountain bikers going up with you, and they gave you blankets sometimes!
