Crotched Mountain 2019-20 Season

Great day out there today. Lots of runs open on natural only. Favorites included Comet Drop, Final Frontier, and Lower Meteor/Plutos Plunge for the ungroomed naturals, and Meteor, Big Dipper for the groomed snowmaking runs. Over half the trails are open and lots of poaching going on on the closed runs as well. Sucks this rain is going to ruin it all.

Agreeing with xlr8r: Not only today, but the entire weekend was the best opening weekend I can remember in my 13 seasons at CM. In a bygone era, it would have been 100% open, but in our litigious world, most areas are a bit more conservative about calling a trail "open." (I saw tracks coming out of most of the glades.)

Between 2 to 2.5 feet. The snowboarders to whom I spoke, liked the glade and the snow. Most skiers found the snow to be punky. No one said that they bottomed out in Solstice Glade.

Unfortunately, north of Concord the totals were much lower.

I think Bretton Woods reported only 3" Wed AM.

Yes, I checked on Wednesday the 4th in the morning. I think Waterville reported 7 or 8.

Real jackpot in NH was New Ipswitch (due south of Crotched on the MA border) with 36".

Crotched was VERY nice tonight with the new snow! Run of the night was Velocity, but you could only get to it from the double. They need to get Milky Way open soon so you can access the west side from the Rocket. There are still lots of huge whales around, Pluto's should open soon and was being poached a lot tonight. I'm guessing about 6" of new snow.

As of 6AM (give or take), CM's new snow report isn't posted yet, but based on what I shoveled at my condo this AM, I'd say 7". That includes about 5" shoveled last night with about 2" more this AM. In unshoveled areas where settling occurred, the measurement is closer to 5 or 6".

I was surprised at the quantity of blowdown in Solstice Glade, including many larger limbs and three trees. I'm going to try to get in and clean it up before these things freeze in place.

Much to my shock, no. Although there is a whale at the top of Milky Way that if pushed down Milky Way, it could probably be opened!

Not having Milky Way open keeps me from going much. Although it's one of my most hated trails, always skied off, I enjoy skiing the entire hill from the Rocket. I've been burning extra gas to get to Mt Snow, rather than ski the same 3 trails, over and over.

Happy to report that among other trails, Milky Way and Pluto's opened today. They blew a couple of other trails all day today. I am quite impressed with the recent snowmaking efforts. Most of the trails on the mountain will be open for the holidays!

More terrain open today. Mon., Dec. 23, Jupiter Storm is supposed to come on-line and maybe even UFO/Equinox.

Fun Sunday afternoon at Crotched with the family. Pretty scraped off when we got on skis at 1 but kids had fun. Probably back next Sunday afternoon. The face painting and santa visit for kids was a nice take for $29 afternoon Tix today

As usual Meteor was buried and is the crown jewel of the snowmaking ops there.
Revised menu and Onset was good with a little refresh

Yesterday (Dec. 23) was quite spectacular. While temps did get into the high 40s, the humidity was low and a steady breeze kept the surface dry and intact. Unlike the last two thaw events, we got through this one with zero damage.

Dec. 24 should be an excellent day here. Just remember: we close at 4PM today and are open tomorrow (Xmas Day) from 1-9PM.

Met fellow-SJer, Jonni here today. It's always nice to meet in person the people we've been sharing with for years on SJ.
