Crotched Mountain 2019-20 Season

Was the skiing great? No. Fun? Hell yeah! Pluto's was just okay as Joshua said. Meteor was really, really thin, but continuous from the race start shack to the MTN road, with great snow. Alas, today will be my final Crotched day of the year, barring a freak May storm. Maybe one more in June if there's still snow somewhere where travel is allowed.

Nice photo Chuckstah. That must have been taken in the late afternoon. It was melting fast and it looks like at least one more bare spot replaced a snow bridge that was there in the early AM.

Yep. It was around 4 or so, as I was leaving. There were still only 2 breaks in the snow, but the third spot you mention was paper thin and about 6 inches wide. All good, as you know my standards of skiable snow are really low. 😀

Simple answer: No.

But if you really want to ski, there is a patch at bottom of Jupiter's Storm that will give you a dozen turns per run and the headwall on Velocity is good for a half dozen turns.

May 9. 2020 - Sat.

The total snow was about 1".

I thought there might be enough snow to make some turns on the flatter surfaces like Super Nova. I was wrong. But there was a nice patch on the Velocity Headwall (mentioned above) that accommodated between 6 and 12 turns depending on how fast you took it - so I did it 5-times. It sure beats "not skiing".

By 10 AM, most of it has melted away.

Better than not skiing for sure. I didn't go, but certainly would have if I lived there.

Longest part of the shortest season ever. We seem to get this every week for a few hours. It's like mother nature took action when she saw the newspapers and didn't like, "GOLF COURSES TO OPEN". This was at about 8am looking from the condos towards the summit. Joshua skied by shortly after this picture, 20 minutes later there were 2 green stripes in the snow where his passage had caused melting. 2 hours later the lawns were turning green again.

The last heap of snow from CM Park melted out in the middle of last week (May 20 plus/minus a day or two). Still a few of my diehard friends who are still at it. Any SJers still skiing?

I haven't been out since May 2nd, but I still have the itch. I'm going to try to get some turns in on June first or thereabouts. Any knowledge of good patches left in NH would be greatly appreciated. Killington is an obvious answer, but I hear some locals are all but lynching out of state folks. I'll remember that when they want me back. I think I'll ski mostly in my home state next season, with the exception of supporting some independent areas.

Thanks, but from what I hear the road is blocked. Maybe that will change soon?

Stein's was busy at Sugarbush this past week. Still a bunch of snow left. No lynchings here, but plenty of people flaunting the physical distancing rules in town today, not all of whom from out of state. Fingers crossed the idiots don't spin this back to how it was in March and early April...

Nope, just looking at the hill. Biking season. Hiked Mt Ellen last week- FIS is still T2B though a long walk for short ski. No ski tracks anywhere. Snow going fast in this sun

There are abundant recreational options in people's home states and they aren't violating health orders by coming to yours.

Far from the truth. NH is loaded with out of state plates this weekend, most from states with stay at home orders still in place.

What portion is untrue? That there are options in your state or that we (NH/VT residents) aren't heading south?

It's very clear that plenty of flatlanders are up here violating the 14 day isolation order. However "just one more" doesn't make it right.

I don't know who "they" is? But plenty of folks are coming to my state in violation of stay at home orders. I don't think NH has a 14 day quarantine, VT does. The spread has been slowed, hospitals are empty. We need to welcome everyone back with open arms, or the NH economy will be wrecked for years. Close to 20 percent unemployment currently. I don't want to clutter the Crotched thread so that's all I'm saying on this.

I'll ask again, any good patches left around NH for some early June turns? Thanks 😊

Canon had some significant patches left today, but the longest coverage appeared to be on Baron's run. Fog was closing in as we passed through the notch, couldn't see loon at all.
