Mon 04/05/2021 and Tues 04/06/2021
From a skiing perspective - both days identical. Soft surfaces from opening bell with quite a bit of melting. Monday 4/5 wasn't quite as damaging with the sun disappearing late morning behind overcast skies and around 48(f) but it did reemerge in the afternoon. Today, Tue 4/6 was bluebird and full sun with mid 50(f)'s most of the day (55(f) at the base around 3pm). Available terrain held steady over both days, but I don't see how the main face routes survive much longer. The summit area is melting out quick too, although they have parked as much snow as they could strip from Sunbrook at the junction of Thanks Walt and Long John presumably to make summit repairs. Ego Alley still has the best/most snow on the main face although only the entrance to skiers right of the Ego barn is available. Getting to Ego is a bit tricky with the Lodge route from the summit. After skiing the gravel on Lodge a couple of times, I took the Cascade to Link route to Ego which was better. Cascade OK. Committed OK. Snowdance, melting out quick. Roller Coaster - stay high on the man made mounds and your OK.
Both Northface runs, Chute and Freefall, are still excellent and can hold up. Carinthia still has good coverage on Nitro, Fools and Gulch - Prospector is skiable. Long John between Nitro Express and top of Heavy Metal could be problematic unless they make repairs.
I don't see making April 18 on the main face. They could do it with Carinthia only, but it would be a shame to let Chute and Freefall on Northface melt out as that is the best skiing on the mountain - both runs continue to be awesome / classic spring skiing. Perhaps they plan on revitalizing Long John somehow in order to connect Northface and Carinthia. Maybe they close after this weekend and try to reopen the following weekend. Not sure how they do it. We're considering ending our season on Friday... sad
