Rating the 2020-1 Season Versus the Last 10 Years

I don't keep metrics or anything like that. In my mind, the skiing was 8/10 in Jan and Feb. No thaw, but huge gaps between storms: overall exceptional skiing. However this was offset by a horrific Nov/Dec and March. Overall I say 5/10 for the season, taking conditions only into consideration.

Dreadful spring melt out, many early closings and very limited terrain for those that made it to April. We'll see if K can even make it to May. Only 15-16 was worse in recent 10 years, from my perspective. K made May 29th during 15-16, though... Looking through my 15-16 reports, it is actually pretty close for which season was worse (my perspective in looking through my write ups, I got more days in 15-16 and similar powder/tree skiing)... Let's see how long the remaining areas can go...

I agree with riverc0il's posting, but this is not about setting an absolute grade for this season, but where it stands in comparison with the COVID-shortened 2019-20 season. I am comfortable leaving it where it is, but I wouldn't be opposed to moving this season down below 2019-20. For those willing to earn turns, the 2019-20 season continued into July.

Maybe down south. But in northern Vermont, snow pack is far below normal. It was close to the end of January before I had bumps on expert trails to train candidates on toboggans, usually we hold the candidate test the end of January. So this season in NVT is worse than last year.
