Yes indeed. And people wait in line for an hour at Disney to ride a plastic elephant around in a circle.
Basic psychology here.
1. I can afford it
2. It's the best place to ski
3. It's where the action is -- look at all these people!
4. It has to be good or they wouldn't be doing it
5. I don't want to be the one who misses out
6. It really wasn't that bad, I picked the shortest line
7. I was able to get into the parking lot -- Winning!
8. The skiing was terrific, I did really well. Winning again!
9. I feel good about myself
I don't think this epic pass thing is going away any time soon. A large part of the population draws energy from being in a crowd.
Not saying they're wrong, just saying what it is. I predict Vail will sell a lot of passes again. they'll lose some, certainly, but they've probably already got a handle on that number. And they're probably working on a product to sell to the disgruntled people.
It would have to get a lot worse in order for crowds to be their undoing.
200 people not buying passes because we're pissed off about how they run Wildcat doesn't bother them even slightly. The bad press is just free publicity, gives them an opportunity to create gibberish about "experiences" to spin the message in a positive manner.
stock just started upward trend, but there's a death cross last week. As they say in Maine: Hard tellin'
