I saw this article which is quite interesting. Those old buildings were still at the base of the Thaynes lift when I was there 19 years ago.

Cranmore's Skimobile, Birdseye's (and one or two other area's) STABIL lifts, & Snow's Air Car

Not too many truly unique lifts left. Eaton Mountain still has a unique chairlift that was built by a local construction company, but it doesn't run anymore and its days are numbered.

I think the Ski Museum (Franconia) had an article on this subject in one of their quarterlies.

Joshua, you should remember that Bearpen Mountain in the Catskills also used to bus skiers to the summit of what was and would still be the greatest vertical drop in the Catskills.

Yan was an engineer, but more so he was a charismatic visionary who could offer the ski industry what they wanted at a price they thought was reasonable. The Company had a team of engineers that would design his often discussed ‘sketches on cocktail napkins’ for production. He was not reckless in regards to safety but did believe that the industry needed to “own” a portion of the R & D process.

I thought buses were pretty common. Prospect Hill used one to get to the upper T-Bar, it was the major lift system at Le Massif for years, Bearpen (as you suggested), I think Wachusett and several others.

There are other detachable triples, but it may be the only Von Roll detachable triple.

To my knowledge there were 4 detachable triples built in the U.S.

Good choice. I missed that one for the short time it was available.

On unique lifts: The old South Ridge triangle lift at Killington. If you took it from the bottom, going around the mid-way bull-wheel gave an odd sensation.

The South Ridge Triple was the best. Loved that double jolt when passing through the two tower-mounted bullwheels.
