Yan was an engineer, but more so he was a charismatic visionary who could offer the ski industry what they wanted at a price they thought was reasonable. The Company had a team of engineers that would design his often discussed ‘sketches on cocktail napkins’ for production. He was not reckless in regards to safety but did believe that the industry needed to “own” a portion of the R & D process.
