I had a couple of great, very different days this week at Sunapee. . Sunday, 3/24 was a great bluebird powder day. It was very crowded, with lift issues. Both summit quads didn't get up and running til 11ish due to icing. (I didn't notice any ice). Parking was full when I pulled in just after 11, trying to time lifts opening and snagging a spot as people were leaving. It worked. The N. Peak triple was ski on, with a 3-5 minutes wait in the singles line on Sunbowl. I never did try the main Summit chair. The line looked long. The skiing was great with lots of untracked in the glades off the summit that had just opened, especially the unmapped stuff. All the trails with any pitch bumped up quickly with great hero snow. Awesome day!
Yesterday, March 26 was good as well, but very different. It has low crowds, but also featured clouds, flat light, and an occasional light mist that required goggle wiping. Not ideal but still a nice spring surface with big soft bumps. It got really sticky in the afternoon and I exited fairly early, around 2. Good overall day. I believe the first one is Cataract Glade, the second is Beck Brook, and the third is Tin Can Alley, an off map but obvious shot next to the N. Peak triple. Here's one at the top of Sunrise glades looking towards the lake.

March 29, 2024 - Friday
The grooming team groomed for 45 to 50 degree weather. Unfortunately, it didn't reach above 35 degrees until noon. For the morning, the mountain was a skating rink. By 1:00 PM, it got pleasant.

At CM, only 40 miles away with similar weather several times this winter, we didn't have a day this icy all season on CM's groomed surfaces. People tend to blanket condemn Vail. The evidence suggests that the problem with Sunapee is local - not in Broomfield, CO.

A lot of folks with whom I rode the lifts at CM offered similar complaints about Sunapee's grooming many times this winter. One gentleman with whom I rode a lift at Sunapee today had a different take and just lamented, "It hasn't been the same since the Muellers left."

That place has been a disaster since it was sold. Ragged has benefited.

Joshua sorry Sunapee wasn't much fun today, but it doesn't surprise me. I have not been there this year partly because my experience has not been good, while I did ski at Crotchet (with you most of the time) and found the grooming, snow making and staff to be way above what I have seen at Sunapee. I totally agree it is the local management. Earlier this season I watched as Crotched, Ragged and Pat's Peak all made snow, Sunapee didn't appear to be making snow at all when the weather did allow. In years past I remember just about every trail with snow making was open by MLK at Sunapee. I think Crotched had just about every run open by MLK even with several restarts along the way.

Good job to you and your co-workers at Crotched this year. Looking forward to next season.

March 31st, 2024 - Sunday
Skied at Sunapee for the morning on Sunday. Sunapee is my old stomping ground as I grew up skiing there and also worked there for a solid 11 years. It was good to get back as I hadn't been for a bit more then a year. Conditions were certainly near bulletproof on what had been groomed early and soft/granular on what was groomed late. I honestly couldn't complain....it was a pretty nice day. Good coverage on 95% off the terrain, crowds were low for a Sunday and the weather was good.

To add to the bit on what the place is like since Vail took over - I very much agree with what others are saying. I feel like initially there was a lot of corporate influence as to how all Vail resorts were run, but now as time has gone on it does feel like there are differences in the experiences between each resort. When I visited Attitash a couple of weeks ago, everyone felt upbeat and the place seemed well cared for, and I feel like that has a lot to do with local management. I can't say too much about Sunapee as I have close relatives who still work there, but I very much agree it's not the same place as it was when the Muellers ran it. I too, very much miss them.

I was there too on Sunday, March 31. I found the conditions after 11 AM to be spectacular and took some great laps on both Flying Goose and Goose Bumps. For those who prefer their steeps groomed, Lynx was nice, too. Unfortunately, all of these are served by the FG Triple - which is a bit slo-o-o-ow!

I was there today, April first from 11- near close. Great Spring conditions with all the snow making terrain in play I believe. All the natural stuff was closed with the exception of Williamson to Crossover. As Joshua mentioned, great soft bumps on the two Goose trails. Lynx opened later in the day after racing for some afternoon corduroy. And yeah, that N. Peak lift is slow, but serves the by terrain. A few pics.

April 7, 2024 -Sunday
100% open, beautiful conditions. Closed to the public at COB April 7.

Big crowd. In the Mueller era with this much snow, they would have extended at least 2-weeks.

I was at Sunapee as well Sunday for closing day. Great conditions and lots of people for April, but very avoidable lines. They definitely are closing earlier than necessary, but this week's forecast is not good. I had a Joshua siting from the N. Peak lift, but never connected.
