Jay and I had a fantastic day even though the surface is quite soft and there’s really no grooming in a few days I went from nine first chair until three,Jay stayed another hour until started raining. The area has trails all over the place and they did put up new signs for each trail that you could read on the map but there’s no arrows but man you could go all over the place and we had a great time. The old Hall chairs were a little squeaky but the Borvig
ran pretty good and I almost did a front flip getting my ski tip caught in the low hanging lift, ask Jay about that one.
We had both a prime rib taco salad which was absolutely fantastic and we were back out a little afternoon 1230 or so and got a full feeling for the whole area Jay went down just about every trail there was some of the double blacks were very steep and rocky and the very soft conditions made it challenging even for expert Jaytrem.
Funny story is Jay sent a family of four down a double black to try to pack it down a little bit for him and they were all struggling but he just laughed it off I’m sure they were not happy he sent them down there but whatever I’m laughing as I say this.
I bet there was no more than a dozen cars in the lot all day so it was just the place to ourselves basically lots of acreage here for a place in the middle of nowhere and we enjoyed riding the long chair. I don’t see a reason why I could not be open all the way through like it was for 50 years but anyway we rode the most bizarre chairlift in North America according to ricks ski bum.
Whitecap is still a very retro old school area and since my wife and I golfed here 4 years ago there really doesn’t seem like much change with the exception of the new ticket, rental, and wood heated picnic area. The new trail signage was nice but they didn’t have arrows on them making us indecisive. The lifties were all cool guys a the one named Chad at the triple when asking him how to get over to the long/north south chair said he would just forget to get off at the unloading at Ravens roost and go right over to Eagles nest. He said they’re closing Sunday and wouldn’t pull your ticket. But Jaytrem said maybe at 2 o’clock but not at 10. When looking at the unload ramp we were glad we did the right thing.
Just a great wanderer’s dream that you actually had to consult a trail map( which was 3 years old btw) and ask a lifty how to get back to the lodge. Quite a unique ski area. Had a fantastic day once again , tomorrow Indianhead and Blackjack.
