Regardless of one's allegiance in the corporate skiing mud-slinging contest, it is pretty lame that any ski area's site does not have updated reports. Making people go to a third-party site is lazy and just adds to the narrative of a corporation that does not care much for the customer.

A ) It's not 90% and the public will be on both Superstar and Skye Lark by mid week. No one else has or will have terrain like that open anytime soon.

B ) It doesn't matter whether you or I think it's a good thing or not, tossing Killington into a discussion of Vail (when there is an obvious reason for the terrain differences so far) is irrelevant and why I responded.

If it was 90% of their resources as the OP stated, there is 0% they'd be open to the public top to bottom through North Ridge and Snowdon right now. Truth

I personally could care less about the Cup, but comparing T2B offerings between a mountain who is hosting one over Thanksgiving weekend and those that are not is rather odd.

The sub-discussion has evolved to commitment to the early season product. I don't fault Killington for their choice. But I can compare what they are offering me as a skier with what the three named Vail Resorts had to offer me.

I am also willing to guess, that no one else has the sample size that I personally experienced year-to-date.

I call total BS here. The original topic was about the FACT that Vail does not include any snow/condition reports on their resort sites. YOU called that FACT political diatribe along with your cohort and changed the subject to this crappy take on early season conditions and have been rightfully called out for it. Go moderate a different thread please.

This thread makes my head hurt.

Glad Vail is making their passes worth something at some areas, despite poor snowmaking weather, and glad Killington got skiing on the sports pages once again in the early season. I am sure their customers will enjoy the huge terrain expansion that will happen once they open SS and Skyehawk/Skyelark. They will probably call it 6 trails, but who's counting.

I will wait for the little, non-corporate areas to come on line. Now that rifle season is over in VT I will be back on the mt bike for a bit, but the skis will be ready...

I know this is a Vail Sucks thread but people up thread were complaining about Killington’s lack of terrain offering at this point in time.

Another thing to note about Killington opening — while they have the advantage of making a lot of snow at high elevation in warmer falls … they have a massive disadvantage of getting a route down to the bottom to make it T2B and another massive disadvantage of significant terrain required to traverse to the third peak to open.

Great Northern is a long route. Lower East Fall has a long runout. Caper —> Lower Great Northern is very long too.

With North Ridge the first to open, there just isn’t an easy way to expand quickly based on the topography of the mountain. Compare to pretty much every other area that can pick off a couple trails at a time slowly expanding. With K a lot of snow needs to be made on two key routes before the 2nd phase and 3rd phase of major trail openings can happen.

Re Wildcat, that’s the same BS they were doing last year. Last year they were practically never updating snow reports. There was a time that it was weeks between updates. They only updated when a significant change was made. If you can’t be bothered to hire a snow reporter than it’s IMPERATIVE it falls on to the GM or the night hill manager to spend the 5 minutes a day it takes to update conditions and write a brief narrative.

But the fact is Vail just doesn’t care as they got our money up front.

@tedede … it’s also very wet snow that allows them to last further into spring. See my above post re why Killington will never be a true early season powerhouse besides an early opening. Their mountain favors (steep north-facing slope, right in front of lodge with one lift ops needed) deep spring ops rather than aggressive terrain offerings for Thanksgiving.

I will never understand the frenzy for early-season skiing when in March and April many places couldn't give away tickets and close early. Yes, I get the Backyard Effect and the start of spring school sports and golf and and and. The fact is that November and early December skiing in the NE is rarely outstanding and not worth the effort and expense to go share a WROD with thousands of others.

Once winter arrives and you can actually explore the mountain you are paying a king's ransom to ski, then I hope they get the terrain open.
