Our guests loved the storm. We even had a small line most of the day on a non-holiday Monday!

I had a friend up there today and he said the snow guns were pumping out a ton of snow too.

Indeed. CM is ready to open Pluto's, Jupiter's and the NCC-1701 Park. They are waiting until after Wednesday's storm to groom out the huge whales.

Cool undercast today. Skiing was good as well with hero snow everywhere. A couple of 10 minute showers did need to be dodged during the time I was there.

Great pics Chuckstah! Glad that today wasn't a washout. Friday night was one of the busiest nights in recent memory with college night, rail jam, and high school races. There were still lines at closing time. Busy, but everyone was having a great time. The base is quite deep, but some pow on top would be nice. Maybe next week.

Adding to what Chuckstah and Quietman's comments, the day featured some of the weirdest weather, with the most spectacular views.

When I started mountain setup at 7:30 AM, it was pouring. By 10 AM, I went home to change everything I was wearing and put all the wet clothes in my drier. The rains continued and I went home a 2nd time around noon for another clothing change.

By 1:00 PM, the skies cleared with spectacular views of the sun through the clouds over Mount Monadnock, undercasts in every direction and even a rainbow. (I missed the rainbow, but a friend is sending me a photo, which I will post when I receive it.)

Two more showers blew through later in the day.

Oh - BTW, the skiing was good too, but even if it wasn't, the scenery would have made the day worthwhile!

January 17, 2024 - Weds.

My first glade report of the season which should hold up thru at least the rest of this week follows:
1. Final Frontier was roped off, so I stayed off of it. But all its chutes generally referred to as the "remi glades" all had good cover and skied well. You did have to remain alert for pucker-brush.
2. Kuiper Belt was awesome. I took it 3-times. It's not complete but I found the derocked/destumped lines!
3. Dark Star: Only tried the T-Bar line which offered some nice turns at the top. The bottom was gnarly and a bit bony.
4. Solstice Glade, both the trail and the glade skied well, albeit with thin cover. The glade still features many untracked lines.
5. Uranus (off Milky Way between UFO and Velocity), though in bounds is not on the trail map. Many breakthroughs, many rocks, much deadfall and not recommended.
6. Enchanted Forest: Upper part nice. If one didn't exit on to NCC, there was a lot of open water to deal with.
7. West Ledges: Only took Hellions Gate. Some might have liked it. I didn't.
8. The Nature Trail west of Super Nova was fun.
9. All short glades by the condos were fun.

Was able to get to Crotched for night skiing last Wednesday 1/31. Pulled in about 6:30 and got a front row spot. Was able to get on the Rocket at about 6:45 on a beautiful night hovering around freezing. The snow was nice, soft and very easy to carve. No real signs of ice which was nice because I expected it to be skied off by night skiing. A good crowd but lift lines were never more the a few chairs. I forget how much vertical I can get in in a short time at Crotched. Got in 20 runs by 9:00.

I did my annual "ski my age at my next birthday" marathon. The conditions and weather were just about perfect. While 78 runs was the goal, I actually wound up doing a couple of extra.

About 9 hours. I average a bit under 9-runs per hour. (Note the 79th and 80th runs, I took very leisurely, so I was actually out on the hill for about 9.5 hours.)

Thanks D & G (aka Blaze).

Sheryl was with me about 1/4 of the day, Matt C. was with me about 1/4 of the day and Mark G. was with me for about half the day. Much of the day, I was riding the lift with more than one of them, so I actually was alone for about 20% of the runs.

Haha. BTW, season to date I've been out 74 days and have averaged 24.8K vertical per day.

Quietman

Crotched has been blowing snow for the past 3 nights including tonight, and by now have refreshed/added depth on most of the hill. While the 3rd parking lot was needed today , lift lines were minimal as many skiers spent time in the lodge to avoid the wind and squalls, which were not too bad.

I'd be interested in hearing how liftlines were elsewhere.

I was shocked at how short they were at CM when you consider the quality of the snow and grooming, not to mention the fullness of the parking lots.

Given the quantity of snow that they are blowing, I have to wonder if CM is planning to extend to the first weekend in April.

Considering how unpredictable this winter has been (and next week's forecast) and the fact that many ski areas are still making snow to make it until they're predicted closing dates, that's probably doubtful.

Skied for a while with Joshua today, and the snow did get a little slushy towards the end, but it was 60 when the sun was out. Depths are still very good on all of the open trails. Tonight's rain, although heavy, will be a cold rain of shorter duration. Tomorrow afternoon, Friday and most of Saturday are looking good. Hoping that Sunday's event trends colder........
