I did double that on 5/1 into the 2000s. There were never this many people. Either the sport isn't dying or there are just more crazy enthusiasts!
I think young people are into "party events". :D
I went to closing day this year at Alta, 22 Apr 2024. The crowds were enormous (for late season) and crazy, a Woodstock-like gathering. Locals told me Alta's closing day has been growing strongly in popularity every year, but is especially big when there's a sunny/mild forecast for the last day.
