With this latest storm, which is heavily dependent on elevation. What ski areas have the highest base elevations. Top of my head is Plattekill sitting at 2400'.

The Overlook Lodge at Belleayre is roughly at 2600feet elevation. This would be northeast. If we include just the east, in NC, Beech Mt base at 4675feet elevation and Sugar Mt base is at 4100feet elevation.

I recall we had a thread back in SJ 1.0 days and yes, Belleayre is definitely highest regular base area in the northeast.
I think Blue Knob PA gets the Northeast if you stand on your head
Saddleback rings in around 2465'
Killington K1 base is 2500ish
AND - Fun factoid! There is at least one other lift served ski area in the Northeast US that base elevation falls somewhere between Belleayre & Plattekill. Arguably the highest in the northeast, since it only has one base. :)

Is this a trick question? If "base" is like Blue Knob, with lodges at the top, Laurel Mt. PA is the same.
rickbolger
Indeed Laurel is up there, albeit upside down. The one I'm referring to in New England has a base at just under 2700' right side up. Or right side down I suppose. Anyway I'm fairly sure it's the highest non-upside down base in the northeast, unless I'm missing something somewhere.

Bolton Valley

well if it were up to your transmission, BV would win hands down. but otherwise it's merely top ten in the 2100' range
trackbiker: you've been there :)

I don't think it operates, and it had snowmaking and maybe grooming. Hydrants in photo

Woody got it!
Yes it was closed for quite a few years. I telephoned the Cog earlier today to confirm....the trail is no longer groomed and they no longer make snow, but it has reopened for winter operations, and skiers are welcome.
If you ski down they give you a second ride up for free, if there are seats available. You can buy tix online.
McCuskers as far as I know is private only, and if it's the slope on the north side of the gap it's about 2200'-2400. Top ten!
LaurelHillCrazie
The lift at Laurel loads at approximately 2000 feet. Snowshoe, WV (also an upside-down resort) lowest lift is at 3338 feet; top elevation is 4848 feet. Timberline, WV base is 3268 top is 4268.
Is Bolton the highest base in VT?
slatham
Bolton claims highest at 2,100'. But that's not true if you consider K1 the "main" base of Killington. This area is circa 2,500'. This one of a long list of reasons why SuperStar is the ideal early season race venue.
z1000307470
The Stratton main base is about 2200ft elevation and Bromley base is about 2000ft elevation. Magic base is about 1400ft elevation.
justkeepmovingne
If you use "base area" by lowest skiable point and not just *where the lodge is* like with Killington or Bolton Valley, the top 3 areas in the Northeast are actually all closed, all at just about 2400'.
Roxbury Ski Center (Denver, NY)
Enchanted Mt (Jackman, ME)
Catskill Ski Center (Andes, NY)
Plattekill takes the cake for open ski areas by that metric (according to Google Maps Terrain View), unless you're considering ski areas in the Southeast which are significantly higher.
