So I did some research to see how things differ in our respective neighborhood’s. This highlights the issues with a region-wide view of the ski season when reality across the region varies significantly.
Sugarloaf: 98” current vs 200” average - 49% of average
Stratton: 119” current vs 180” average 66% of average
Even the smaller/lower Bromley reports 131” (slightly exaggerated but even my total is 120-125”) average of 145”.
Although I question the accuracy, Opensnow reports total 18/19 snowfall of 215” at Sugarloaf vs 111” at Stratton.
So Northern Maine and SoVT are hare having very different ski seasons, and had very different seasons in 18/19 too.
Some other interesting data points:
Jay Peak is at 341” (no, that is not a typo). Average is 347”, so they’ve basically had a full seasons worth of snow by mid-Feb.
Mount Mansfield is at 81” DEPTH vs 100” in 2018/19. Average is 61”. Note there were several days in November and December where they broke the daily snow depth record going back to the 50’s.
