Looks like another storm for next Sunday and Monday, but southern again, and not as much this time. Still cold with lots of small snowy disturbances for at least another week or two. Would be nice to get another 1-2 footer for the mountains before the turn to spring.
NewEnglandSkier13 Updated snow totals are still showing around or slightly below average snowfall to date for most of northern New England.
The chart you posted shows average to above average snowfall for most NNE locations. Looks like northern Maine is quite a bit below average. But Mount Washington, Burlington, and Bangor all show above average. Concord, Gray, and Portland are at average. Almost all of the data points in the chart that you posted are outside of New England. Only Caribou shows below average, for the NNE areas on the chart.
Obviously, this is not a great year for northern Maine. But you’ve been generalizing northern Maine’s sub-par year to the rest of New England, and it is just not so. The overall average (in terms of quality skiing) for the vast majority of New England is a significantly above average year. Southern Maine seems average, northern Maine below. Everywhere else, it has been significantly above average.
In terms of the past 10 years, we can all debate 1st, 2nd, or 3rd best. But anything less just isn’t objective reality for the vast majority of the northeast. In any year, there are always going to be a few outliers. Goodness knows my number 1 years never make it to the top of the SJ list, because I ski different conditions than the majority of SJ’ers, more often than not.
