skelley19 Looks like I got charged a little over 3% instead of 6.25 that Taxachusetts usually gets from me. I checked Colorado states sales tax and that is 2.9 so that doesn’t quite match either. WTF are they doing?
Massachusetts does not collect tax on tickets sold online to you in the Commonwealth if they will be used in another state.
My guess is they got some tax & legal people with advanced degrees to figure something out here. Are they calling this an estimated blended sales tax?
I do see the impetus behind it – it is virtually impossible for a business to calculate taxes in advance on this type of multi-state product. As I mentioned, there are some 13,000 different tax jurisdictions in the USA, so a business operating nationwide with a subscription/future multiple use taxes – ugh! ….if you only use your pass once, will the entire 3% they collected from you go to that state? What if you only use the pass in New Hampshire, and no tax is due?
I still recommend contacting the state revenue etc. departments as I described above. Perhaps they can shed some light on this.
Curious as to whom they will be remitting all of these collected “taxes” —- I would think Maura would be mighty pissed if she knew someone was collecting tax money in Massachusetts for a product that she doesn’t even collect taxes on, and distributing it elsewhere.
But again, taxes are such a convoluted mess, Vail may have figured something out.
